John Burrell has specialist expertise in urban design and masterplanning with a particular experience of community consultation on residential projects and the imaginative re-use of historic buildings. He led the successful adaptation, conversion and regeneration of the 1970’s Angell Town Estate in Brixton, described as “brilliant community architecture… architecture at its vibrant best and a model for similar urban housing everywhere” in the Civic Trust Award citation. John has demonstrated design innovation in many prize winning projects including the Harbour Lights Regional Film Theatre in Southampton, which was shortlisted for the 1995 Royal Fine Art Commission/Sunday Times ‘Building of the Year’ award, and the Stratford East Picturehouse, voted as one of the best 50 buildings of 2000 by The Independent.
John’s research has led to numerous publications and he has served on several advisory bodies. He was trained as a structural engineer and took an MA in History and Theory of Architecture at Essex University, graduating from the Architectural Association and winning the Diploma prize. Most recently John as been appointed to the LB Southwark Design Review Panel for major planning applications and is also a Design Director to Urban Initiatives with special responsibility for housing and neighbourhoods. His current and recent projects include designing prototype residential units which are being used to inform the new Masterplan for the Aylesbury Estate in Southwark and obtaining Planning Permission for a number of residential infill developments across the property portfolio of Homes for Islington.
Mark Foley
Mark Foley has specialist expertise in the design of theatres, auditoria spaces and buildings for the performing arts. He has gained particular experience in the design of modern and classical dance facilities and he carries out consultancy and research in this field. His work has led to numerous publications, participation on advisory bodies and teaching positions. Mark has undertaken many studies to explore cultural regeneration working closely with arts business and management consultants to develop strategies and establish the feasibility of particular cultural projects.
Mark is the Principal responsible for many of the theatre, concert hall and performing arts projects in the practice including, the Almeida Theatre Islington, the Royal Hall Harrogate and the Crucible Sheffield. He has designed a number of buildings for schools including the award winning Performing Arts Centre at Frensham Heights School and the Menuhin Hall, a purpose built 316 seat concert hall for the Yehudi Menuhin School. His current and recent projects include the two auditoria, designed to respond to a variety of performance types including opera, symphony concerts, music theatre, drama and dance, for the Onassis Cultural Centre in Athens and five dance studios, the first stage of a three-phase masterplan for the Tring Park School for the Performing Arts.

Stefanie Fischer
Stefanie Fischer has specialist knowledge of the design of facilities for film and media. She also has experience of working on historic buildings including projects for Institutional clients. She has worked on a wide range of residential and regeneration projects for private- and public-sector clients. Community consultation is an important part of her work and she shares her expertise by participating at conferences, teaching, serving on advisory bodies and engaging with architectural education as an external examiner. She brings strong management skills to all her projects.
Stefanie was the Principal in charge of the refurbishment of the Listed Grade I headquarters of the Royal Society in Carlton House Terrace, London and the refurbishment and remodelling of one of the country’s finest early Georgian Country House Estates, Chicheley Hall in Buckinghamshire, to establish the Kavli Royal Society International Centre for Science. Cinema and Media projects have included Kino Hawkhurst, the first digital cinema in the UK, Broadway, Nottingham’s Media Centre and the Scala Cinema and Arts Centre in Prestatyn. Current projects include the refurbishment of a Georgian terraced house, Listed Grade II*, in Central London to form a single family home, the refurbishment and remodelling of the headquarters of the Royal Academy of Engineering in Carlton House Terrace and a number of feasibility studies and planning applications for independent cinemas.
